What is Yoga Nidra?
He who looks outside dreams. He who looks inside awakes. Carl Jung
Yoga Nidra is a systematic method of inducing complete physical, mental and emotional relaxation. Practioners lie in comfortable positions and listen to a guided meditation that brings them into the state of deep relaxation that normally only occurs during the transition from wakefulness to sleep (hypnagogic) or from sleep to wakefulness (hypnopompic). In this state one becomes open to receiving intuition from the subconscious mind. Muscular, emotional and mental tensions can be alleviated. Many also experience great shifts in negative thought patterns and habits. Yoga Nidra is a powerful practice that can bring about deep personal insight. It is also one of yoga’s most accessible practices. It’s benefits can be experienced by anyone, in any state of health, even if they are bedridden or have never done yoga before.
