Who’s This Class For?
-
Neurogenic Yoga™ is especially suitable for those experiencing chronic pain, daily stress & long held tension, PTSD. It is also however an opportunity to simply shake off the stress from your day or week as a means of maintaining healthy nervous system balance.
About The Class
Neurogenic Yoga™ is a revolutionary technique to heal trauma and reduce stress. It combines yoga poses and breathing with the body’s body’s natural therapeutic shaking response. The human (and animal) nervous system has an instinctual shaking response that is genetically coded to help us discharge long-held tension and trauma. It is an unconscious muscle contraction that restores the body to wholeness after stressful or traumatic events.
Vibration and shaking in the body automatically occurs when the nervous system identifies threat. Unfortunately the negative social constructs that see shaking and tremoring, as showing vulnerability or weakness, mean that this innate release mechanism is conditioned out of us at a very early age. Neurogenic Yoga reawakens the body’s intrinsic release mechanism to optimize health and wellness.
Class will begin with a 30 minute series of movements. Modifications are offered to ensure this portion is suitable for all bodies and experience levels. Absolutely no yoga experience or ability is needed. These poses will stretch and tire the psoas, and other muscles that are involved in the contraction response that occurs when the nervous system experiences stress, or feels unsafe.
Yoga movements are followed by a lying posture that safely introduces neurogenic tremoring to release physical and emotional stress and tension. Vibration usually begins in the legs and may spread throughout the entire body to release long held tension. This method is based on Dr. David Berceli’s technique of Trauma Releasing Exercises® (TRE®).
This class provides:
-
Six 75 minute classes in a calm and supportive environment.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

BOBBY BESSEY, B.Sc., RYT 500, RPYT, CD (DONA), HBCE (HypnoBirthing Educator)
Bobby Bessey, B.Sc., E-RYT 500, RPYT has been studying yoga and Ayurveda for over two decades. Her first hot yoga class in downtown Vancouver in the mid 90’s changed her life direction. She went on to study yoga in various traditions, in both Canada and Japan, before eventually making her way to India where she took her first of many teacher trainings. Her yoga background is varied however she practices predominantly in the School of Bihar tradition.
Studying in the birthplace of yoga introduced Bobby to a vast expanse of vedic wisdom. After years of exposure to ayurvedic teachings in yoga study contexts she finally decided to fully immerse herself. In 2017 she packed up her family and moved into a little apartment in the Himalayas to study with Dr. Arun Sharma at the Ayuskama Ayurveda Institute and Panchakarma Center in Dharamshala, India.
The ayurvedic information shared in this course is derived from Bobby’s interpretation of Dr. Sharma’s insightful teachings that follow in the Bhardwaj lineage. Dr. Sharma’s compassionate and perceptive instruction forever changed Bobby’s approach to instructing yoga classes. The principles of ayurveda not only underscored her belief in the power of yoga to enhance wellness, but added an expanded layer of discernment that she realized could be carried into a yoga class setting.
In this Ayurvedic Yoga teacher training program Bobby hopes to provide participants with both an appreciation and understanding of ayurvedic wisdom, and the skill to use this expanded viewpoint to deepen the wellness impact of every yoga class taught.
Testimonials

I began to struggle with depression, anxiety, and compulsive, intrusive thoughts as a young teenager. I sought out many treatments and therapies over the years. Entering my thirties, I have finally come to recognize that healing cannot just happen in the mind.
When a friend sent me a link to Bobby’s Neurogenic Yoga classes, I decided to give it a try as I was already familiar with the benefits of yoga for mental and physical health. This is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for myself. Learning and practicing neurogenic yoga for the last six Monday evenings has allowed me to release so much tension and stress from my mind and body.
It is not an intellectual process and you don’t have to talk or even think about anything difficult you have experienced – this practice is more about tuning back in to our own nervous systems and letting them take care of themselves again. Each time I attended a class, I left feeling calmer and more present in my body, and was able to carry this into the rest of my week. This practice allowed me to let go of whatever stressors I was holding on to, and keep moving forward with more compassion for myself and others. I now see this practice as an amazing tool for stress management.
Learning this technique in such a welcoming and safe space has improved my relationship with my body, and I have gained greater awareness of when I am holding on to stress without having to think about it all the time! This practice has also allowed me to learn how to trust myself and my body for the first time in many years. I can’t recommend Neurogenic Yoga with Bobby enough. If you are looking to reconnect with yourself and your body and learn a wonderful and effective technique to release and reduce stress, I really encourage you to give this a try. Thank you Bobby for helping me to change my life!

I wasn’t sure what to expect from my first neurogenic yoga class with Bobby, but the experience has left me wanting to pursue a regular practice. The tremors were a new sensation for me, and although I felt like I was processing some big things during the tremoring, it was also so relieving. Looking forward to my next class!

I did another session at home on Wed. The shaking was all below the waist. Later that evening and all day yesterday I noticed a change around my mastectomy scar and under and around the arm pit. Like something shifted. Maybe scar tissue released ? It’s been 4.5 yrs !!!

At first, there was a calming tingling sensation in my leg muscles, then it progressed to a fluttering like butterfly wings , and finally to larger beating type movements. This sequence of events changed location to different muscles during the session. It was a very welcoming experience which I didn’t want to end. In the hours and days that followed, I felt an overall calmness throughout my body and mind.

I can’t describe it completely but I feel like something has released or shifted in my body and mind. At first it was hard to believe that I was not doing the shaking on purpose, eventually I realized that this was indeed an instinctive physical release that I was simply allowing. I felt really good afterwards and experienced a powerful release of tightness from an injury that happened years ago.
